WHAKATANE SHEEP FAIR
Messrs Dalgety and Co. ? Ltd., report having held their Autumn Sheep Fair on Wednesday February 14. The offering was in excess of the advertised numbers and competition despite the unsatisfactory position with regard to railway transportation of was keen and we report practically a total clearance under the hammer. Included in the entry were some very good lines of 5 year old ewes the top price for this class of sheep being 24s 7d which sum was realised for a line offered by Mr L. E. Goldsmithy other big lines of these sheep made from 21s to 23s 4d. The entry }f lambs was excellent and values remained firm at rates equal to ather sales in the district., a particularly good line of 258 shorn Romney lambs offered by Mr H. N. J. ripping made the satisfactory price dI" 19s 6d 5 whilst a smaller line on account of Mr H. J. Leiishman was veenly sought after and finally \nocked down at 19s 7d. We give below the range of prices *uling at the sale: Forward 4th wethers 28s to 30s; 2th wethers 23s Id to !7s 6d; good .5 year ewes to 24s 7d; jthers 21s to 23s 4d; 6 year ewes to 8s 6d; aged ewes 12s to 17s accordng to 'condition; 2th ewes to 265-; ?ood Romney wether lambs (shorn) o 19s 7d; medium- wether lambs 15s Id to 17s 6d; smaller wether lambs 3s to 14s lOd; ewe lambs 14s to 1&3 d: aged Southdown rams 4 to stins.
