The Whakatane branch ol the N.Z. Red Cross Society j desire to acknowledge with thanks the 3 ton load of wood kindly donated by Mr F. G. Jones of Awakeri. Test of Good Roads Mr J. L. Burnett was engaged in exemplifying the test of good roads in their relationship to modern transport at last Wednesday's conference of the East. Coast highway. "It is not so much the distance today as it is the speed it is possible to do on a well constructed tarsealed road," he said. "If a person goes to Auckland he speaks in terms of time ? and on a good road it is the average experience of motorists to touch 50 or 60 miles per hour."
