PERSONAL
At present in Wliakatane on three month's jeave from the Navy is Lieutenant Allan Stewart. Lieut. Stewart will be remembered by residents of this town as the second. Rhodes Scholar to come from Whakatane. His scholarship was granted in 1940 while attending Massey College. Opportunity was taken at the last meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council to bid farewell to- Cr J. G. Mulholland, whose resignation owing to his removal from the district was received Avith regret. Referring to.Cr Mulholland's interest and. work in the Borough the Mr B. S. Barry said that lie was a sound and noted who had enjoyed the full confidence of the electors. Other speakers were Crs Shapley Armstrong and Creeke. Cr Mulholland briefly returned his thanks and expressed his appreciation of what he termed his happy associations with the council. On the motion of the it was decided to exercise the powers of the Council in making its own appointment, by nominating to the vacancy Mr C. G. Good who was next in order of the voting at the last election.
