MAORI QUEEN CARNIVAL
CANDIDATES PRESENTED
In conjunction with the Ngatiawa Gymkhana and Sports Meeting, a Maori Queen Carnival i& also to be held. The campaign was launched at a special dance held last Saturday evening at the Poroporo Hall. The hall was well packed and the enthusiasm of the crowd was amply demonstrated by the wonderful reception accorded the two candidates when both Avere presented.
The Carnival itself is being run in conjunction with the annual gymkhana promoted by the Ngatiawa Committee which last year initiated the meeting for the first time in aid of Patriotic Funds.
The two Queen Miss Toha Ngoungou (Ngati Pukcko) and. Miss Uru were introduced by Mr R. Toma who spoke in the Maori and by Mr M. Tat-| ana who spoke to the gathering as a whole. The he said, was to assist the Maori community to meet its Patriotic obligations. He trusted that this would be fully achieved.
Both of the young ladies were attired in full Maori kit, and received an ovation from the. assembled crowd. It is planned to hold the crowning ceremony on March 17 at a function to be held in the Poro-i poro Hal: following the conclusion of the Ngatiawa Gymkhana which is to take place that afternoon.
