Large Pine Cone
An outsibe in cones fell from a Norfolk Island*pinc on the estate of Mr K. Morton at Katikati. The cone was 20 inches in circumference and fell from a 60-70 year old tree 15 feet in girth* It is the lirst whole cone to fall from this particular tree which was planted by Mr L. Man deno's father. Maori By-election Instructions which have been received by the Army Department provide for ail men of Maori bloody irrespective of age who have served overseas and who reside in the Western Maori district to vote in the forthcoming by-election. In addition. Maoris- who are serving with forces in New Zealand and who have attained their 21st birthday arc al»o permitted to vote if they have the necessary residential qualifications. Voting for service personnel has been possible in all camps and at ail post offices since January 24, and the last day will be February 9.
