ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The annual general conference of the All New Zealand Indian Association was held at Christchurch on the 20tli > 21st and 22nd of January 1945. Numerous delegates from the various branches of the Indian Asrsociation and the representatives from every part of this Dominion attended thereat. Items concerning the Indian residents in this Dominion as well as of India and abroad were discussed together with their relation to the world. Resolutions were passed in which the outstanding was that the Indian Association ask the Government of New Zealand to give considerable attention and a fair chance to the Indian immigrants in tiffi? country } when the immigration policy shall be considered alter the war At' the conference the attitude of the theatre owner of Pukekolie towards the Indians who were not. allowed to obtain tickets for higher seats were deprecated. The Association believe, that it is not only an insult to the Indian Nation but. also a disgrace to this country which stands for equality of rights. Also a call was made to the Indian community residing in this Dominion to co-operate with the Government wholeheartedly in the prosecution of this war as* they have done, in the past. The officers of the All New Zealand Indian Association were elected as follows:—President: Unkabhai K. Dhanjee (Rotorua): vice-president: M. Somabluii (Auckland); general secretary: B. S. Jliooty (Wellington); secretary: Chandra (Palmorston North); treasurer: C. B. Patel (Wellington): auditor: C. Keshavji (Christchurch). The Executive Committee of the Association was elected as follows: V .H. Patel (Grey town) t C. Gopal.ji (Wellington), P. Dullabhbhai (Auc'k K. Singh (Fordell), Gurubhan Singh (Taumarunui) C. Panchabhai (Dannevirke) f W. Bhana (Rotorua), M. K. Master ' (Pukekohc) t T. Girtlherdas (Pukekohe), N. Jar-am (Whakatane), R. Fakirbhai (Chris'church).
