SCOUT CAMP
I ■ 1 i ■■ FUN AT OHIWA HARBOUR , . "I BREAKING UP TOMORROW Friendships which will last for many years, are being made at the Scout Camp now, being held at Ohiwa Harbour. For just on. one week boys from, Opotiki, Waiotahi and Whakatane have been under canvas at a pleasant site on one of the inner harbour arms. Every day has been full of interest and incident, whilst swimming has been in- ; dulged in- both on the ocean side and in the calmer waters of the land-locked Ohiwa itself. The sixty-two lads are under the control of. S.Ms. C. F. Te H. Fergusson, C. Lofley, A.S-.M. W. Rivett and Mr M. Anderson. Tucker has been though fishing has had only disappointing , results. On the ather hand the opportunity has been taken of putting all those who desired to qualify j through the necessary tests for various badges. This has occupied the camp substantially, and has led to*' much practical scouting work being accomplished. > The 'social hour' in the evenings has been, particularly popular andi has brought many of the more retiring lads 'out.' On Wednesday all the visiting scouts made a trip into Whakatane where they visited the local theatre and' enjoyed the matinee. They were also the guests of a well-known milk bar where free drinks were dispensed. To date there have been, no accidents of any sort, and when the camp breaks up tomorrow afternoon the fit, sun-burnt, lads who will go home should be a walking advertisement for the good which has been accomplished under a properly conducted camp.
