Kicked 1 by Horse An accident occurred at Te Teko on Sunday when Miss Ada EdwardSj aged 16 years, was thrown and kicked by a horse. She Avas admitted,to the Whakatane Public Hospital suffering from injuries to both legs. She is now reported to be progressing satisfactorily. Ranging and Impounding According to the County Inspector's report for the month of December twenty-two head of cattle and thirty-four horses were impounded from County roads and the State Highways in Waimana, Taneatua Te Teko, Matata and Paroa districts. Driving fees, poundage and sales fees totalled £30 19s 6d. Expensive" Salvage A total of £220 was paid out by the U.S. Army authorities for salvage costs to refloat the oil barge stranded at Te Kaha. Fourteen local men employed on the work were paid at the rate of 7s 6d per hour a total of £130, the balance of the sum being made up in auxiliary charges. The barge arrived in Auckland last Tuesday after a 500-mile tow. Discussing the estimates at yes terday's Hospital Board meeting M F. Burt drew attention to the fac that the total estimates for 194 \ver<i just twice as much as the " were for 1941. Defendant declared in a letter that since the Government had taken the child away it should assume full responsibility. Evidence was produced to show that defendant was earning £5 14s weekly. An order was made for the payment of 12s 6d per week.
