BOY SCOUT CAMP

LAKE ROTOMA SITE

EFFECT ON RAILWAY STRIK

With the prospect of 150 boys /Titom all parts of the Bay at- ( tending the District Scout Camp at Lake the committee is now seriously worried regarding the possibility of transport of the tents and other materials from which will be up. as a result of the railway strike. It is intended l however to> continue with all arrangements as though the camp will be held as arranged, and in the event of any hold-up stfeps will be taken: immediately to notify all troops of the cancellation of the 1 camp. t Boys from the two Whakatam : troops are instructed to meet at th residence of Scoutmaster Te H. Fer . £> us son, 'the Manse' in readiness fo: . moving off at approximately 2 p.m on Saturday next. This notificatior i cancels out the instruction in Friday's Beacon to meet at the twc though the drivers of the buses concerned will be instructed to keep a sharp look-out for scouts who may be picked up at intervals along the route. A larger number than at first anticipated are expected from the town and from all indications the long overdue spells of fine weather will favour the camp, we hope for its duration. All arrangements for the camp will proceed until it becomes obvious that it will be impossible to bring the tents here in time. Reports to hand as we go to press indicate that the Military authoril ties from whom the tents are on hire for the intend making an effort to transport them through to Whakatane before Friday in army trucks. If this can be achieved the camp will carry on without difficulty. Donations of vegetables and produce will be greatly appreciated and for this purpose donors are asked to leave their donations at Whakatane Farmers Supply Co. (Whakatane) , Keen's Store (Awakeri), Hay and Rogers (Edgecumbe), Mackrell's Store (Otakiri) and Glen's Store (Te Teko).
