ROTOMA SCOUT CAMP

OPENING ON 27th

1.10 BOYS EXPECTED

Arrangements in connection with the Rotoma Boy Scout camp which commences on January 27 are now nearing- completion. The Camp Committee which has charge of the arrangements has the whole? scheme mapped out and plans are well forward. Notification has been received from the sixteen scout troops in the district that upwards' of 150 boys may be expectedl.

Added to this number will be some twelve scouters- drawn from the various districts. Scoutmaster C. F. Thomas (Whakatane Scottish) will act as Camp Commandant and Te H. Ferguson as Adjutant. The camp will be spread over eight days and will embrace all types of scout training together with sports and socialities.

The catering for such a large number of district, youth is one of the major problems confronting the committee, and an appeal is made to residents who may have an excess of fruit or vegetables to make these available at the time. All such donations together with camp gear may be left at the) rear of the premises of the Whakatane Farmers' Supply Co., The Strand.

The question of transport has occupied the committee fairly exten*sively and it has now been arranged to bring the Opotiki and Wai®-. tahi troops direct to Rotoma by service buses. Boys from Whakatane will also: be transported by buses from town whilst AwakerL Scouts will be picked up en route. Scouts from the Tanraiig'a end of. the district avill catch the train which leaves that town at 7.30 a.m., and arrives at. Edgecumbe at 10.20 a.m. They will there be met by buses and taken to the camp in: time for the midday meal.
