The Government's, interest in the scheme suggested by the Nelson City • Council and supported by the Whaikatane Borough Council as a means of overcoming the Dominion shortage of houses is. shown by the following letter received from the Prime Minister, by the Borough Council at its meeting last evening:— "The action of the Council in backing up the Nelson City Council's scheme requesting the Government to state in what way local bodies could best help to assist in the provision of houses, and suggesting that loan moneys be made available to local bodies at a very low rate of interest, to enable them f*~. —'to undertake housing schemcs is very commendable,.
