EMPIRE MEDAL WINNER
William Robert Grystie j one of the recipients of the British. Empire Medal in the New Year honours j is the man who once pushed Goering off the steps of the British Embassy in Paris. This 65 years old ex-ser-geant of the Lancers a was for 15 years* doorkeeper at the British EmParis. When the Embassy was vacated in 1940 before the ent try of the Germans, Chrystie was left in sole charge. Goering arrived one day in 1941 and demanded admittance. Chrystie replied, "This building 'is protected under international law.'You enter it over my dead body. That goes for Hitler too." He pushed Goering off the steps* and shut the door in his face. He was subsequently arrested and gaoled for five months ? but Goering never occupied the Embassy.
