DOMESTIC ALLOWANCE
SOME ANOMALIES ADJUSTED Some instances of anomalies in the matter of Domestic Allowances for servicemen have been brought to the notice of the Government by the N.Z.R.S.A. particularly in reference to cases where the service man's wife dies, and his children have to be cared for by another person. In such cases, the domestic allowance ceases on the. death of the wife and is not payable to the guardian in Avlio.se care the service man's children have been placed. The N.Z.R.S.A. contended that the decease, of the mother is no way lessened the responsibilities of the service man for the care and upkeep of the children, and urged the Government to alleviate such hardship by granting the domestic allowance to the guardian of the service man's child or children.' The Association has now been advised that the Government has approvbd the principle in certain specific circumstances. It is not intended however, that the approval shall operate retrospective]} 7, and that it will be entirely discretionary. It will apply only in a limit-* ed class of cases where the circum-. stances appear to Avarrant payment of the allowance.
