Inter-Marriage of Maoris Evidence of the inter-marriage o\ Maoris with people, of other races is given in the population statistics in the New Zealand Official Year Book. The last census in 1936 showed 102 people of mixed Maori and Polynesian descent nine. Maori-Japanese, 38 Maori-Chinese, 41 Maori-Indian, 26 Maori-Syrian and three Maori--American Indian. Thfre were 11,508 Maori-European quarter castes and 103 Cook Mand Maoris. All these, are counted in the non-Maori population*
