RETAIN WARTIME CONTROLS
PREDICTION FOR BRITAIN The British Minister in Washn ington, Mr Harold Butler, predicted that Britain would retain wartime controls of food, clothing and rationing in the interim period between the end of the war and the time of complete reconversion. He said that, at the end of the war British industry was certain to be taxed beyond capacity by 1 the demand for building materials, clothing food and consumer goods of every type. There, was. likely to be an establishment of priorities for the allocation of all sorts of manufactured articles. ' Mr "Butler added that 1950 was a reasonable guess -when controls could be lifted. However, the Japanese war was an unknown 1 actor capable of upsetting the whole calculation.
