WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

OTAKIRI CHRISTMAS PARTY The monthly meeting of the Otakiri Women's Institute was held at Mrs W. Murray's residence and took the form of a Christmas Party for members' children. This was a geat success and Avas thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The feature of the afternoon was the beautifully de.corated Christmas Tree. This Avas just laden Avith gifts for every child present. A packet of sweets w r as also handed out by Santa Claus who arived per horse and sledge amid a jingle of Jjells. Races- and games were held for the kiddies and there were, some very close finishes.

The children certainly had a treat with the afternoon tea. There being strawberries and ice cream and jel-, lies of all colours as well as a wonderful variety of cakes etc. and there was sufficient for all the grown ups present to be "treated" with the kiddies. A treasure, hunt was held for tiie under S's and over B's, the unders being won by Vernal Peck and the overs by Mildred O'Brien. Two consolation prizes were won by Katliie Leslie and Joan Leslie.

The twortiere.d Christmas cake was most effectively decorated with Santa Claus as pride of place at the top of the cake.. This was cut by Mrs Peck and Mrs Jessup.

Before the children left they were all given another ice cream and then Mrs Peck thanked Mr and Mrs Mur-* ray for their generosity in opening their home and garden and the kiddies showed their appreciation both to Santa Claus and Mr and Mrs Murray with very hearty cheers.

The afternoon was brought to a close with many sighs of not wanting to go home } but everyone had had a happy and enjoyable time.
