Two Guinea Donation The Whakatane Borough Council has decided to vote the sum of £2 2s to the Auckland King George V Memorial Health Camps. New Bicycle Rack C. R. Whittle's application to the Whakatane Borough Council for the right to construct a bicycle rack in front of his shop has. been referred to the Mayor and Borough Foreman with power to act. Holiday Traffic Control Steps have been taken by the Borough Council over the Christmas and New Year holiday periods to take the usual traffic control precautions. Parking will be extended to the reclamation area west of the Strand and the Borough traffic offi* cer Avill be. on duty. Nt-'w Councillor Welcomed Cr. L. R. Spring was duly welcomed by His Worship the Mayor to the Whakatane Borough Council last Monday evening. Cr. Spring, who has filled the vacancy caused by the death of the late Mr T. J. Cummings was appointed to the Works Committee, Objectors to Rate Two written objections to inclusion in the suggested garbage collection rate-of 15/- annually were received at the Whakatane Borough Council meeting last Monday. Both letters were accompanied by a covering communication from the Health Inspector. It was decided to hold both objections over in the meantimeBust Nuisance at Heads At the meeting of the Borough Council last Monday evening, Cr. J. Crecke drew attention to the dust nuisance which had been created at. the Heads by the opening of a quarry by the Harbour Board and by the continual transport of rock by six-wheeled lorries. He understood that the quarry would only be used for a fortnight but it. had been operating for much longer. It was decided to write to the Board pointing out the nuisance that had been created and requesting that steps be taken to alleviate it. No More Additional Papers The suggestion from the Whakatane branch of the New Zealand Labour Party that the Borough Council should take steps to include in the. library a file for copies of the Standard (official organ of the N.Z.L.P.) was rejected at last Monday's meeting when it was point ed out that owing to the limited space available it was not possible, to extend the service any further at the present time. Dailies from the four main centres together with most of the Provincial papers occupied all the room that was available. •- Golf Balls Collide in Flight The rare incident of two golf balls striking each other in flight Avas . witnessed at the HokoAvhi.tu links ' recently.
