AWAKERI SCHOOL SHOW
CHILDREN AS EXHIBITORS
To give additional interest on the (lay of Calf Club judging Wednesday December f> a sliow oi' flowers "? i ' vegetables and handwork ivas arranged at the Awakc.ri School. Evidence of the good gardens of the district was given by the large number of entries of flowers and vegetables of good quality while, the decorative sections compared well with displays in adult shows. The judges were Mrs. L. Carter, flowers and decorative work; Mrs J. Clraham cakes: Mrs C. R. Wilson, needlework; and Mr J. C. Cannell, vegetables. The show was declared open by Mr Iv. U. Knight. There was a good attendance of and after a parade of the successful and afternoon tea, the. flowers and vegetables w.ere sold on behalf of the School Sports Fund. The prize winners were as follows: — Bowl or Vase of Flowers, for quality: Heather Bell 1; Shona McDonald 2: Barbara McDonald 3. Vase of Flowers, arranged for effect: Heather Bell 1; Joan Powley 2. Bowl of Flowers, arranged for effect: Betty Burstall 1; Shona McDonald 2: Tonv Haultain highly commended. Bowl or Vase, of Wild Flowers.: Jeanette McDonald J; Tony Haultain 2. Best collection of Native Plants (correctly named): Tony Haultain. Gentleman's Buttonhole: Rachael Rust 1: Robert Burstall and Margaret Knight equal 2. Lady's Spray: Mary Parkinson 1; Heather 801 l and Jeanette McDonequal 2. Sand Posy: Margaret Knight 1: Nancy Sinclair 2. Ngaire Elliott and Lex McDonald highly commended . Best collection of Vegetables 0 ? Special Prize: lan McLean. Best collection of Vegetables 3 varieties: Dave Martin 1; Nancy Baty and Barry McCuish 2. Jeanette. McDonald highly commended.
