PROTEST LODGED

EAST COAST MAIN HIGHWAY

AGITATION FROM WINTER SHOW

At the Annual General Meeting of the Winter Show Associaion held' on Saturday evening, Mr H. G. Warren introduced thy matter of the East Coast Main Highway and suggested that a protest from that body should also be asi the more organisations which agitated against the more possibility there was of some notice being taken.

He went on. to say that there was a very real danger of Whakatane being by-passed altogether if the}' were not careful, pointing out that Xierhap'S in another 20 years Edgecumbe would be the. stopping place for buses and the point from which the routes to Tauranga and Rotjrua Avould branch.

Mr B. S. Barry ay as of the same opinion and thought that it would be, a good idea to lodge a protest from the Winter Show Association. The Borough Council he said knew nothing about the meeting which was held until a report had appe ired in the .Opotiki News giving an account of the resolution which had be.en passed. On the motion of Mr Warren it was decided to write a letter to the Minister of Works asking if the report in question was correct, and if so, protesting strongly against 'he resolution passed by the Highways Board Conference.
