Trials of an Editor
Almost any member of the eagleeyed public who might purchance have been abroad at an early hour yesterday morning (around 9 a.m.) would have been in a position to witness an incident (or rather 'accident') as tragic in cause as it was in consequences —a mere trick of fate. It. happened that the Editor, having spurned his auto, was cycling to work in furious fashion. It also happened that his just and lawful route li\y before him . through Louvain Street. His progress proceeded sans incident for some distance when suddenly a hearty voice hailed him from starboard. "Hey!" it said. "I've got a torch of your'c in 'ere." Like 150 volts, the magic
words of. someone wishing to voluntarily return something'shot through the Editor's system. Pausing not to brake, he. wrenched his handlebars round and threw his machine into a screaming turn. Alas; like Caesar's ambition the bicycle should have been made of sterner stutf. Forsaking it& terrestial environment it. became airborne and the turn devolv-
Ed into an aeronautical one. Acting under the axiom that any landing you can walk away from is a good one the Editor picked himself up } dusted himself down, and turned to face the torch bearer, who. simply said: "Sorry, I. thought you were someone else!" (The Editpr is.'-wish-ing he was—Lofty Blomlield for instance).
