St. John Competition Winners
The winners of the recent competitions run in the interests of the St. John Ambulance Hall Fund have been aunounced as under: Canteen Cutlerv Mr H. T. Mitchell (Waimana);'Tatted Cloth Mr T. R. Harland (Whakatane). The fund has benefitted to the extent of £86 13s lOd as a result of the above.
Prehistoric Coconuts
Some prehistoric coconuts from North Auckland have been forwarded to the Forest and Bird Protection Society. They are about as bi£ as a golf ball, and exact replicas of the present day variety. The strata ; in which they are found is estimat- $ ed to be up to two million yearn ;! ago. Coconut trees thus grew ia g New Zealand just before the Greafc , ?|j f ce Age, when the climate wa* < warmer than it is now. * | '" MM
