ARMY HARVESTERS
CAMP TO OPEN Ist DECEMBER
The. Army are establishing a camp at Matata on December Ist for those farmers who applied for assistance during the harvesting season. The duration will be. for two months-.
It is expected 25 men will open the camp and the number will be increased later to 50 during the peak of the work.
An officer will be in Whakatane next week to finalise the arrangements. The. Army personnel are not compelled to work after 5 p.m., but may volunteer to do and so earn an Army pay bonus. No charge is made for transport from camp to farm and only meals supplied by the farmer for which credit will be allowed are breakfast dinner and tea.
Farmers who applied for this help should notify the, Secretary of the Primary Production Council in
plenty of time before they require the men otherwise there may be cases of overlapping and disappointment.
