EASTERN BAY FEDERATION
The bi-annual Council meeting ol the Eastern Bay of Plenty Federation of Women's Institutes was held in the. Waimana Hall last Friday, October 27. Mrs Caverhill, president of the Federation, presided and there was a good attendance of delegates and members from all parts of the Federation. The meeting opened with members standing for two minutes, silence in memory of those who have lost their lives in the present war. Mrs Wykle president of the Waimana Institute, then welcomed Mrs Cavei-hill and members of the executive and delegates and members, and hoped all would have an enjoyable day. Mrs Wykle presented Mrs Caverhill and Mrs R. Looney with posies Avith the Institute's best wishes. The hymn, "Holy Father in Thy Mercy" was sung and followed by the W.T. song. Mrs Caverhill extended. a hearty welcome to all delegates and members, and in her address asked members not to slacken in the W.I. work for the war effort as hostilities were not over yet. The. speaker also thanked all for their ; great assistance in the Drama Festival which was a great success from both the entertainment and financial point. Mrs Caverhill asked all to help to build the world up for everlasting peace.. * The roll call of delegates and their expenses was taken by Mrs K. Armstrong. Correspondence was dealt with and remits and invitatations were received from the Tauranga Federation to their bi-annual Council meeting.
A group meeting is to be held on November^ 23. The, V.O.s gave short reports of what they had done, in the past six their activities being greatly restricted owing to war restrictions. After the luncheon adjournment, the six months' reports of Institute and Patriotic work wa§ given by which were full of interest and revealed the great amount of work being done far war and institute. Time was then , taken for discussion of Mutual Problems, which proved very interesting and instructive .
Members of the Wliimana Institute Drama Circle presented a oneact comedy play "Adult Education,'' the players receiving a great ovation at the conclusion.
The competitions for the day were very popular, the entries being large. The results were as follows:—Patchwork apron (16 entries): Opotiki. Bowl of flowers for effect (17 entries): Waimana 1; Edgecumbe 2. Best collection biscuits from one mixture, (dripping): Waimana. Article made l'rom home-spun wool: Woodlands. A dinner for competition was won by Mrs G. A. Moore, Whakaftane.
The singing of the National Anthem closed proceedings.
