STRAWBERRIES AND ?

Sir, —I am a customer of the Beacon, or a reader contributing the modest 2d per edition. I read it all. It has good leading articles, an interesting page, each week for the children, differences of opinion, by some of. your readers are in the Letters to the Editor's column, and the local news which keeps me informed of the happenings in the district, is much appreciated, as I atti a resident of only a couple of years. I enjoy your racing column, although on several occasions your sporting writer has inveigled me on the wrong "track." Nevertheless he "stars" at times. But. what inspired me to write this letter, is a par in the la,test edition entitled "Early Strawberries." That "crack'' 'about, mild climatej well that's a debatable point. What a "storm" one could raise, should he say the wrong thing. No, no, Sir, I am a mild, person. What I wish to state, is that, I too, have" early strawberries (or rather, it. is a toss up between the birds and I) but your correspondent said, "Strawberries and Cream." No, Sir, he has erred, no cream definitely no cream. Remember the. rationing laws. Naughty, naughty. Eight ounces of butter per person per week, so no cream. But stay 4 a thought., perhaps he meant "mock'' cream. No, I don't like that. Maybe he skims the daily household milk. No, again strawberries need lots of cream and we can't have skim milk. But ah! brilliant thought, he has one cow, a private household cow. I

am not. too sure of this point. You see Sir } I am only thinking up excuses, should some "snooper" make note of the par, Strawberries and Cream. However, if your Sporting Editor can pick the two "Strawberries'* that will ripen about New Zealand Cup time, I too will be able to get some "cream" and sing aloud his praises. Yours "STRAWBERRIES' ALONE."
