WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

WAIMANA GARDENING CIRCLE The monthly meeting of "the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute Gardening Circle was held at Mrs M. King's residence last Wednesday afternoon. There was a good attendance of and Mrs. John Addison presided. The minutes were read by Mrs Cooper and a letter and circulars rc;|l from Massev offering the Circle or individual members help at any time. Mrs N. Clark gave an interesting talk on gardens and gardening in England, and also talked on farming in Ireland and England. The speaker was accorded a hearty votes of thanks. A discussion on the growing of ilowers in general proved most helpful. A competition, arranged by Mrs King was won by Mrs Woollield and Mrs Wyldc. The day's competitions were: Best ilo\ver ( Mrs Woolfleld (French Lilac) 1; Mrs Mitchell (Tulip) 2; Mrs King (Banksia Rose) 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Woollield (Lettuce) 1; Mrs King (Broad Beans) 2. Bowl of shrubs arranged for effect: Mrs Woolfleld 1; Mrs Mitchell 2; Mrs Wylde 3. Mrs Mitchell brought lots of Zinnia seed for distribution amongst members. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Cooper and Mrs Wyldc. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs Addison thanked Mrs King for the pleasant afternoon also the hostesses and judges Mrs Clark and Mrs Cranswick.
