Farmers and Aerodrome The Rangitaiki branch of. the New Zealand Farmers' Union gave formal notification to the Whakatane County Council at its meeting last Tuesday that it fully endorsed the council's actions with regard to the formation of a joint airport board. "Where Is Your Bike?" Cr Cawte was holding forth in a somewhat agrieved fashion at the meeting of the. Whakatane County Council last Tuesday on the tremendous distances which Crs were expected to cover in the course of attending to their riding's needs. Cr Lux ton brought the meeting to earth with a jolt by remarking drily : "Haven't you got. a bike?" Galatea Productivity Comparisons made by Cr Les Lux> ton at the Whakatane County Council meeting regarding the fertility of the farm lands at Galatea and their admirable suitability for settling returned men on ? were possibly misleading when- the production per acre was compared generally with that of the. Rangitaiki. What Cr Luxton pointed out. was that the land in mind for settle-* ment (not all Galatea) could be expected to produce as much per acre as the farm lands of the Rangitaiki averaged. Maize Marketing Committee The personnel of the Maize Marketing Committee was announced in the Gazette last week. The members are: Mr R. P. Rowe Wellington Mr G. W. Arm- ' 9 ° ) strong Gisborne. and Mr M. H. Masfen, Auckland (representing the merchants) ? and Mr W. E. G. Spencer ? Auckland (representing the Poultry Board). Recent Guide Rally At a special wind-up meeting of the Guide Rally Committee held last the assistant sec> retary ? Mirs H. tabled a balance sheet which showed a profit on the day amounting to £9y>s 6i}. Letters were read from the Divisional Commissioner (Mrs Mayfield) and Capt. Judd of Waiohou t conveying their congratulations f"h the splendid success of the day. Commissioner Barry, oncc again expressed her appreciation of the wonderful manner in which all sections had worked together particularly the men's committee and expressed the hope that such j,oint fixtures would again be possible in the fuin the interests of the youth of the town and district.
