[ The hotel-bookings for accommodation points to a big entry for the Labour week-end tournament commencing at midday next Saturday. Entries' have been received from Auckland, Matamata, Rotorua Tauranga? Te Puke and Gisbornc. Together with the local players plus those of the neighbouring clubs in the district close on to a 100 or. more players will be playing. There will be quite an influx of low handicapped players among the visitors. From Rotorua, Bailey on 3 is the 1944 club champion M. Thornton also on 3, darken and J. Thornton on G and Jones on 9. The Te Puke j team of 15 players is headed by Sparks on 6 ? Hookey, Dr. Randell
and Blake on 8 and Taylor on 9. The Gisborne group is headed by W. D. Barker on 5 t N. Bull on 6 } McLauchlin and J. Barns-Graham on 7, Bfosnahan Brownlee and Dodgshun on 8 and Howe on 9. Graham was runner-up to the Open last year and Brownlee won the Rangitaiki Handicap. One of the Auckland entries Schoen is on 7. Tauranga team is headed by WooVfield on 4 and Dr. Mark on 11. Our local players represent a very strong field y and should acquit, themselves with credit in attempts to retain some of the main events locally. An Aucklander now resident here N. Houten ? plays on 6 and will be competing also. And of course we have many of the double figured the people who really make the success of the tournament, by turning up in shoals to consort with the. top nott chers and have an enjoyable time. For them, no championships or laurbut just the pleasure of puttering along on the course and adding to the interest of the tournament. Starting Time The qualifying round will start between 12 and 12.30 p.m. in 3-ball formation. Handicap up to and including 12 from No. 1 tee and 13 upw r ards from No. 10 tee. There will be a tee. controller who will send off each three at intervals of 6 minutes- or after those who have 9 gone have, played their. 3rd shot. In this manner we reckon to send off 114 players in about an hour and three-quarters ? or clear the tees before. 2 p.m. At this time the leaders would be in from their first halves respectively. Draw The draw will be made as entry fees are and players matched as evenly as handicaps permit, who are. present at that time. Names and starting times will be posted on to a board at., the tee and players who miss their cue will be stood down. Practise The course Avill be open for practise rounds in the morning. .The rule governing medal rounds will be suspended in order to give strangers a chance to familiarise themselves with the links. Team Match A champion club teams match will be played in conjunction with the qualifying round. Clubs may nominate four players per team } handicaps up to and including 15. Best nett score for a team being adjudged the winner. Clubs may nominate up to three teams. A trophy will be donated. Events The main event will be the Open Championship played off the sticks. Then the Rangitaiki Handicap played on handicap and the Ngati-Awa Handicap on similar lines. The rest of the field will be grouped into flights of 10 players for match play on handicap also. Players eliminated from the first round of match play will take part in consolation match play of their respective groups. The gross medal will be awarded best scorer. The medal will be awarded to three groups.—seniors 1-10; intermediate ll r l7; and juniors 18-24,. The other conjunctive events on the * second day and the 4-ball events on the third day will be disbursed also in a similar manner. In this distribution, the tournament committee hopes to- spread the interest amongst all the players competing. Lunch No lunch will be provided on Saturday. Afternoon tea "will be dis, pensed in the. afternoon. Play en who will be practising in the morning are requested to take their owr lunches. Tea will be provided at the club-house.
