GRAND BALL

EDGECUMBE NATIONAL PARTY BRANCH A splendid crowd attended tlie Grand National Ball which was held < at Edgecumbc on Thursday, dancers coming from all parts of the district to join in the fun. The ball wafe run entirely by a sub-committee 1 of the National Party Branch of Edgecumbe consisting of Messrs W. F. Hoskin, J. Magee and A. Teesdale who organised the evening very successfully. It was decided that all proceeds, together with those obtained from the regular card and dance evenings held every other Thursday should be" donated to the lc -'al Patriotic funds and on this subject, clic chairman of the committee extended his thanks. He also took the opportunity of welcoming home "Gundy'' Moore who recently returned from over seas. ' The hall was very nicely decorated for the occasion and the sit-down supper provided was one of the best. Thanks are extended to all those who helped in this connection. Mr Taffy Atkinson was M.C. and handled tlie. 150 couples present in a masterly fashion. The Grand March w-as led by Mr and Mrs E. List. Novelty dances and competitions were won as under:—Monte Carlos: Miss Hogan and /Mr D. O'Flahcrty, Miss Howat and Mr L. McCready, Miss J. Campbell and Mr P. Burke. Competitions: Pig,, Miss Vercoe; Chocolates, Miss J. Campbell. Among those ,present were: Mr? J. Shaw black evening dress; Mrs W. F. Hoskin black evening dress; Mrs; A. Teesdalc, black evening dress; Mrs-M. floral Canadia; Mrs Laurie.; blue floral: Mrs L. Perkins, black georgette; Mrs S. Martin black and white;. Mrs P. Gillespie black georgette; Mrs Massey, mauve taffeta; Mrs Huish, wine satin beaute; Mrs O. Martin, blue taffeta; Mrs W. Yardlcy 3 floral. Misses G. Ranby, floral voile; A. Blacky blue taffeta; C. Mexted, blue siiot taffeta; B. Campbell, blue silk; S. Hoskin, pink lace: B. Farrellj*, mauve floral; E. McKay, embossed blue; P. Je[fares s black taffeta; A. Needham, black crepe: I.
