is not generally recognised that the Whakatane local centre, is. an integral part of the International Ret 1 Cross.
To maintain this huge organisa tion, chains, of branches must be maintained throughout the world
ready for any emergency in: peacc or war. To establish permanent Headquart ers and V.A. Training Room ir Wha'katane a drive for funds is be- ' 9 ing made at present. It is not proposed to use any funds which have been subscriber for sick and wounded soldier: trhough sales in the Strand shoo for this purpose.
At. the beginning of the wai monies were raised and set aside foi building an emergency hospital. A? this has not been needed the, money lias been diverted towards a Volun, tnry Aid Training Room.
This sum was, added to by a spec ial building drive last year. The committee now propose to have ;
Lurther drive for funds in order tc build a combined Training Room and Headquarters, free of debt.
