BOBBY CALF ILL-TREATMENT
Sir —In answer to Mr McLean's letter in Friday's BEACON,, I who was the informant as Mr McLean knows, would like to point out that no investigation could prove that the allegations made by me were totally unfounded. Circumstantial evidence . did not enter into this case, as four pairs, of eyes could not be seeing what was not there to see. Any investigation with a Government official or not could not help noting j if properly carried out f a raw wound two inches long by an t inch wide on the. stomach of a calf • where the navel should have been. I As the informant and as a great lover of animals I feel very deeply that instead of receiving encouragement to bring the perpetrator of this cruel act to account, Mr Andrew McLean has used this paper to discredit my statements and to sow doubt in the mind of the public as to the authenticity of them. I feel sure however, that with the valuable and generous help I have received from the Editor of this pap« er, we have attained at least one of our objects, and that is to stamp out at least one act of cruelty against the helpless bobby calf.. i Yours etc., URSALA BURSTALL 1 Awakeri.
