Wainui Washout

"Tliis- slip has occurred in one of the rottenest pieces of country I have ever had anything to do with " said the County Engineer, Mr C. H. Brebner, at the County Council meeting last Tuesday when discussing the major washout on the Wainui highway. Mr Brebncr said that a temporary road had been constructed but he was of the opinion that a further washout might occur on the new road and as a rc4 suit, the. requisite traffic danger signs had been erected in the locality. The chairman (Mr J. L.. Burnett) said that he was very worried about the slip which had left a fall of 100 feet on the highway and would take a tremendous lot of filling to restore normal level.
