Curiosity
One often wonders what exactly happens to the. water in the gutter when it runs under a culvert. sumably it flows straight and out the other side^—but does it? One small Maori boy at least wantetfi to see for himself. He was noticed in the. Strand yesterday afternoon, standing dubiously by a culvert surveying it with thoughtful eyes. Com-* ing to a sudden decision, he lay down upon the footpath and then lowered himself towards opening till he could peer through. What he saw was obviously of intense interest as he remained there for quite some minutes studying the gloomy depths of the. culvert, and obviously wishing he was small enough to* venture further into the mysteries of the tunnel.
