ADULT EDUCATION
MEETING OF W.E.A. A very successful and entertaining meeting of the local branch of the Workers Educational Association was held in the Borough Council Chambers last , Wednesday night.. The first --business that of electing a chairman and was. disposed of in smart order, Mr S. Ditchfield became chairman and Mr S. Mayer s secretary. The members then settled down to two and a half hours of discussion on the subject "Language and Society." The discussion covered a wide, range, from the intelligence of a day to the immortality of man and the members are to be congratulated on the facility of expression of. their ideas and the way they kept to the point. Mr Ditchfield performed admirably as chairman-leader often taking hold of the conversation and leading it tactfully back to the point with some pertinent observation. The 'Press' came in for its share of praise and its use of words as propaganda and in advertising often being very misleading. It. was hoped that the local Editor will find time to address members on the subject of the press at a later date. A general wish was expressed among the members, that the meeting had been bigger. An invitation is extended to those members of the public who may be interested to come along to the next meeting take part in the argument and join the rest, in a genuine attempt to understand the many problems that confront the world today. To those interested, the secretary's address is Lovelock Street and lie will be glad to enroll new members and provide them with the course of lectures.
