VICTORY LOAN
ONE MORE WEEK TO GO QUARTER DISTRICT QUOTA With only a week of the Victor|y Loan Campaign to go the Whakatane district has succeeded' in raising barely a quarter of its total which is Last week's subscriptions brought the total figure to £24,152 ? which is only £5000 increase from the week before. The slowness of the campaign is in marked contrast to the Third' Liberty Loan which was* oversubscribed last after establishing a record for the Dominion. From all outward appearances, unless there is a marked improvement in the investments lodged during the coming the present Joan will with difficulty achieve the level subscribed to the lesser [loan of a year ago. Should the Victory Loan fail to meet its objective?, it will be the first time in New Zealand's history, that a war loan, did not result in over-subscription. Such a prospect is not a happy one, but it may yet be too early to speak in this vein. The Thames-Bay of Plenty postal area is still bringing up the rear for the Dominion percentages, and of this_ Whakatane has found less than a quarter of her allotted share. Details of the amount subscribed to date are as und'er: — Whakatane: Bonds £1369; National Savings £2420; Stock £16 550. Total £20 339. 9 • Matata: National Savings l £117; Stock £200. Total £317. Taneatua: Bonds £117; National Savings £224; Stock £1950. Total £2291. Te Teko; Bonds £406; National Savings £79; Stock £720. Total £1205.
