WHAKATANE GOLF CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS Match play in all divisions commenced last Saturday. These elimination contests left good fields of seasoned players to continue; and in the seniors especially—where five past, champions will be competing including both the. open champ, Hyand the Club champ 4 Cradwick. The highlight of the day was a round of 79 by L. Carter in his match with Milne. In spite of the odds, Milne hung on till the 17tli. Following are the results:— Connell beat Rangi; Powdrell bea« Luxton; Carter beat Milne; Morpeth beat. Spence; Cradwick beat Butler; Suckling beat Combes; Hyland beat Henderson; Burstall beat Moore; Patience beat Sloane; Dawson beat Littlejohn; Can trell beat Cockerell; Anderson beat Barry; Spring beat Armstrong (by toss at 19t.h); King beat Turnbull; Denliam beat Winstone. Sweepstakes- Stableford Bogey: Carter 36; Wright 33; Connell 30; Hyland 27. Draw The second round of the championships will continue next weekend,, the draw being as follows:—' Seniors: Connell v winner of Steel v Syme match; Carter v Powdrell; Morpeth v Cradwick; Suckling v Hyland. ! Intermediate: Burstall v Patience; Wright v Dawson; Cantrell v Campbell;. Bushett v Anderson. Juniors: Spring v Stone,; Dallas v Corbett; Syjnmans v Denham. Consolations Seniors: R. Morpeth v loser of Syme v Steel match; Milne v Luxton; Spence v Butler; Combes v Henderson. Intermediate: Moore a bye; Sloane v Littlejohn; Coc'kerell v Bridger; Barry v Berg. Juniors: Armstrong v J. Wilson; Wyllie v Braddock; Bullot v Turnbull; Wills v Winstone. A Stableford Bogey sweep competition will be played in conjunction .
