Owing to the small quantity of maize available from the current season's crop i it has been found necessary to ration supplies in the interests of consumers who would otherwise probably be unable to obtain any supplied at all; and to ar-» range for priority of supplies for certain classes of users such as those requiring maize, for chick growing pullets etc. To enable such rationing to be carried out as fairly and equitably as possible, a Maize Marketing Committee has been established under the Maize Marketing Emergency 1 Regulations, and this. coVimittee held its first, meeting in Gisborne on 14th under the chairmanship t>f Mr R. P. Fraser # Acting Director of Internal Marketing Division. The committee is- a thoroughly representative, consisting of representatives of the Growers' Association in both Poverty Bay and Bay of Plenty; a representative of the N.Z. Poultry Board and three members of the Grain Merchants* Federation, representing distributors manufacturers and retailers: and members of the two Govenment Departments interested in maize marketing and production—the Internal Marketing Division and the Department of Agriculture.. * The Maize Marketing Emergency Regulations provide in order that the committee shall have control of the distribution of the whole of this- season's no grower or other person may sell or deliver any maize; and no person may buy or accept delivery of any maize after the regulations came into force on the 7th September; except with the approval in writing of the commit-*-tee.
