Time for Burning Off Anyone who knew anything about burning off land should know that there was certain times when this should be done, said Mr W. H. Freeman S.M., during the hearing of a case in the Thames Magistrate's Court recently. Consistent Battler Cr Creeke is noted for the conr sistency of his' verbal battles at the Borough Council table, and last Monday evening was no exception. Once more the question of waiving the 'brick area' by-laws in order to allow another wooden structure to go up on a section opposite the wharves was opposed by him in firm telling manner. "That's one thing I admire the County Council for," said Cr Creeke. "When they make their by-laws they stick to them. Why bring them in at all if we are. forever going to break them." The popular vote of the Council howeVer left him a lone-hander again and the matter was passed for advertising. Importers Seek Assurance 'An assurance that in all cases where it could be proved that Gov-i o.rnment to Government buying was unnecessary import licenses would be, granted to importers of the goods concerned where their import had been approved, is asked for v by the Bureau of Importers i following a statement by the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan. The. Minister said the Government would not undertake the importation of goods unless it was found to be absolutely essential.
