The clergymen were undaunted in Greece .said the Rev. L. A. North
to Hastings llotarians. recently, when speaking on the fight of the churches in Europe. He told of an instance when the Metropolitan of Athens protested to the German Governor against certain classes of hostages being choscn to be shot as revenge for the deaths of German ;:oldiers especially those Avho were fathers, or had others dependent upon them. The German Governor refused the request, to discriminate between the hostages so the Metropolitan offered him a piece of paper. have here a list of 'na inert of men who were Avilling to be shot men with no dependents" he, said. The German Governor took the list 'J at the head of which was the Metropolitan himself. "On that piece of paper also was the name of every priest in the churches in Athens," said Mr North.
