THE R.D. SERVICE
Sii'j—l was extremely surprised to read in your latest issue an account of a Farmers' Union meeting at Edgecumbe at which it was stated that the Rural Mail delivery would possibly cease at the end of the* month the reason being • that t MrC King the owner was being callecfe up for service and could find no" suitable person to take his place. An attempt to hit at the manpower
regulations underlie the statement. But politics aside I wish to state* that in answer to an advertisementplaced in the Beacon some weeka ago I applied both personally/and by letter for the position and so farhave, received no satisfactory reply.
B would hesitate to suggest someulterior motive behind the statements as related, but as a man who hasrecently returned grade 1111 havingt been rendered unfit for ordinary work by my army v I think: I am entitled to an open explanation, IT I have been thought unsuitable for the, position, I would like t» know on what grounds. Fair play by all concerned is essential to the fu* fure progress- and social peace oft this country. Yours etc. t : S. MAYOW..
