Westport to be National Harbour

As the result of representations made during his recent visit to the Buller district, the Minister oi Works, the Hon. R. Semple, has ad' vised the Mayor of Westport, Mi J. M. Robertson, that it is the intention of the Government to make Westport a national harbour, in view of the extreme demand for coal, Car Afire Caused by a short circuit in the ignition, a blaze was started in a car which was parked outside the Borough Council on Wednesday afternoon at about 5 p.m. Although no flames were, visible from the outside ) dense black smoke was pouring fortli and a strong smell of burning rubber was present. The conflagration was extinguished before the flames had a chance to get a good grip.
