MEETING AT EDGECUMBE
The August meeting of the Edgecumbe Women's Institute yas held in the hall on Tuesday 15th. Mrs Hodson presided and there avus a good attendance. The meeting opened Avith the singing of the Ode to Friendship and the Aspirations Avere read by the president. The occasion being Scottish day a spray of Avhite heather was, given to each member. A n limber of members' signified their Avillingness to help produce a play for the Drama Festival. The Roll Call was. answered Avith a verse of a Scotch song or poem.
Airs Crang gave a most interest* ing talk on Festive Days 'in Scot' land. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs D. Spenee sang most delightfully "My Ain Folk." A wall competition "Scottish Songs" was won very appropriately by Mrs Crang, who I lien sang an old Scottish • ballad. A musical parcel was won by Mrs Roberts.
Competitions were won as follows: Pikelets, Mrs Righton 1; Mrs Mextcd 2. Spring bulbs, Mrs Rountrec 1; Mrs Dryers 2. Best flower, Mrs Br vers 1; Mrs Goldsmith 2; Mrs Robb 'A. Something new foni something old, Mrs Malpas 1; Mrs Snelling 2; Mrs Jackson .'5.
A delicious afternoon lea was served by Mrs Wilson, Mrs Crang and Mrs Goldsmith and a pleasant afternoon concluded with the National Anthem. MEETING AT TANEATUA The monthly meeting of the Taneatua W.[. was held on Tuesday, Btli August, Mrs Gardner presiding over a good attendance. As the meeting was to take I lie form of a
"pantry afternoon" for Mrs Storey members had been asked to bring a friend, and an invitation had also been sent to the W.D.F.U. "f which Mrs Storey is also a member.
The meeting opened -with the Institute. song and Aspirations read by Mrs Grey, after -which the president extended a hearty welcome to all present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and continned and correspondence dealt with. One new member was enrolled,.
The Roll Call "A verse that appeals" brought forward some charming verses, although only a few members responded to it. A competition arranged by Mrs Adams, was Avon by Mrs Grey.
A short sketch entitled "Taking the Chair" was presented by members of the Drama Circle, those taking part being Mesdames Gardner Adams, Moore, Grey, Merrie Hughes and Miss Hills and was most enjoyed by those present.
A shoulder spray was. presented to Mrs Storey, - who was then asked to come forward and open her parcels. These contained a wide and varied selection of articles for the pantry and in a few well-chosen words the guest of honour thanked members and friends* l'or the afternoon and their many gifts.
A delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Logan i Ball and Lawn, assisted by the committee.
Results of competitions were: A, Article, from Hour bag: Mrs, Merrie 1: Mrs Grey 2. B, Six ginger gems: Miss Hills 1; Mrs Merrie. C, Best llower: Mrs G rev 1; Mrs Fox 2. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
