NEXT WEDNESDAY'S EVENT

A large number of servicemen have returned to the district c'uring the j)ast four months and it is the intention of the Welcome Home Committee in Whakatane to stage a Welcome Home Social and Dance in their honour. The event which is to take place in the Winter Show Buildings on Wednesday next should prove, most successful as almost ninety servicemen and their next of kin have been invited to be the committee's guests for the evening. A large number have already signified their intention of being present. The Show Building is being especially decorated to fit the occasion and no doubt will provide a very attractive setting for this gay event, -as a large committee is to gather on Tuesday evening to attend to this matter. ' Supper is being provided by the ladies; of the Red Cross Committee the Caledonian Society, Women's Returned Services and Women's Institute and is sure to prove ■of a very high standard as in the past. Several new social items Monte Carlos and novelty events are scheduled to take place t and all that is required is a large attendance of dancing enthusiasts and the general public to honour these servicemen by according them a hearty Welcome Home,
