SEIZED LIQUOR
TWO MAORIS PROSECUTED t An imposing array of six bottles ■of. liquor, two of which contained that potent mixture known as "gin sling" was ranged alongside the cloclv at the sitting of the Whakatane Court last Tuesday as exhibit A, when two Maoris were charged with -assisting an unknown person, in the •commission of an offence, —to whit, the sale of liquor to natives in the JVlatatua area. The two defendants, Dick Hautu and Ruru Rangiahu both failed to put in an appearance. Constable Wigmore- stated that on ■June 24 last, h'is attention had been arrested by the crash of glass in a doorway in the Strand. He thereupon accosted the two Maoris and • discovered the bottles.in their possession. Both admitted having procured the liquor from a pakeha but refused to disclose, his identity. Fines of £2 and costs 25s were im.posed in both instances.
