WHAKATANE BRANCH SET UP

RED CROSS NOW RESPONSIBLE

At last Tuesday's meeting of the Whakatane County Council the chairman, Mr J. L. Burnett, explained that the Avork of the Crippled Children Society had been handled by a local committee comprising Dr. Dawson (chairman)., Mr D. V. Saunders and Mr C. G. Lucas (hon. secretary) . The committee Avhich worked in co-operation Avith the District Nurses, Avas of the opinion that better serA'ice Avould be rendered the crippled children of the district, if the work of. the Society Avas handled by a ladies' organisation having country branches. The Red Cross Society had intimated its Avillingness to take, up the Avork and he recommended a donation from the Council for membership subscriptions.

The Council decided to donate the. sum of £5.
