Coming On vxood reports are to hand irom New Plymouth to the e,fleet that Jonathan Jo promises to he in line racing trim for early spring events. A Good Return The, Patriotic Fund Benefit Meeting held by the Invercargill Trotting Club resulted in a profit of £1392 14s Gd.-, Increased Distances The distance of the next Invercargill Cup has been altered from a mile and a quarter to eleven furlongs. It would have been increased to a mile and a half but for the starting place for that distance, bordering a corner. A French Sportsman Prepares A studmaster of Normandy who had all his thoroughbreds "borrowed" by the Nazis was a recent purchaser at the Newmarket Sales. One of the bids he secured was a three year old filly by Coronach, which is a half-sister to a big stake winner in India. The Jovial Circle The latest addition to J. H. Wallace's Takanini team is Mr H. S. Strawbridge's rising two year old filly by Jovial Son—Bonny Song, which is to be known as Jovial Song. She is a well developed juvenile that is likely to come to hand early. Another Lady Owner Miss Jarratt, of Auckland, has just sent along to the R. S. Bagby stable her fillly Blueberry,'by Race-ful—-La Femme, Noir. This will probably be. one of the last of the Race- ! ful family to adorn the turf, but this is not likely to affect her galloping ability. Divided Honours The Night Raid Trophy In the Timaru Cup in which Gamble and Tring ran a dead-heat is to be, held for six months by the respective owners, Messrs R. Murphy and J. Dwyer. The club has donated a miniature, silver cup to each as a memento of the 1944 race. Another Dunedlin Buyer During the past few weeks there has been a keen desire on the part of several sportsmen to secure the successful 3 r oung trotter. Blue Horizon. It is now stated that he has been secured by Mr H. M. Allen, of Dunedan, at a purchase price of four figures. The Trotting Sport Top of the list of winning owners this: season is Mr B. Grice., of Ashburton, with £5025 in prize money, of which the pacer Haughty won £3675. The well known head of chain stores, Mr J. R. McKenzie, of Christchurch, is a closfe second with £4822. Fine Winning Sequence Jimmy Jones, this season's rider, made a name for himself on the opening day of the Caliente meeting. He won the first two races and finished up by piloting home the winners of the last five events on the card. In different countries where horse racing is popular, jockeys have won seven races out of eight,, but as a rule there is a big lapse of time, between these unusual performances. Grand National Events The Northern candidates nominated fot the Grand National Steeple-' chase are Surpeen and Erndale and for the G.N. Hurdles Surpeen, Foxsen, Erndale. and Borak. The noninclusion in the list of Town Sur- t vey was quite a surprise to Northern sportsmen. The only Auckland district nomination for the Winter Cup is Kronos, who has not shown winning form for many months.
