Size of Farms

That New Zealand did not practise a peasant type of farming, as on the small properties in Denmark and Switzerland, was commended by Professor. W. Riddot, of M-assey Agricultural College, in an address at Palmerston North recently. He said that the small farm was not an economic unit and was disadvantageous to a farmer, who had to make a slave of himself on the property.. A fair-sized farm and. co-operation with neighbours in the full utilisation of machinery was desirable. The size could best be determined, not by acres, but by output. The minimum output for a dairy farm should be 80001b butterfat, or preferably 12,0001b.
