V.C.'s MEMORIAL
NATIVE SCHOOL CEREMONY UNVEILING AT PAROA An echo of ihe winning of the Victoria Cross by Lieut. Ngarimu was the unveiling of the Maori hero's photograph at Paroa Native School last Monday.
Following the investiture of Lieut. Ngarimu's , decoration to his parents, Mr J. Kane of Gisborne decided to present a photograph of the V.C. winner to all schools which had contributed to the inauguration of. the Ngarimu Memorial Scholarship. At Paroa. Lieut. Colonel J. Connolly, D.5.0.,, was invited to perform the ceremony,, and in doing so addressed the school children on his association with the Maori Battalion whilst on service overseas. He siress- ' ed the principles for which Lieut. Ngarimu had fought, and died, and gave a most interesting and instructive address to the children on the peoples- of the Middle East. His talk was thoroughly enjoyed. At the conclusion,, the children contributed action songs and waiatas.
