DROWNING FATALITY
ELDERLY MAORI'S FATE
ACCIDENT NEAR WHARF
The hotly of Kelly Pi rcre a (55 year old Maori, employed as a hoat hand, was recovered from a point immediately below the town, wharf yesterday afternoon. The. deceased, who was employed by Mr P. Coutts as a deck hand on the fishing trawler "Outlaw" was first missed on Tuesday morning, though at the time, no seroius fears were entertained for his safety. His failure to turn up at work the subsequent day, however,, caused inquiries to be. made* and on Thursday it .was definitely considered he had possibly met with an accident and fallen into the river. Dragging operations were carried out by the Police, in the vicinity of the boat with the' result that the body was. located and taken to the Whakatane morgue. The inquest for identification purposes was opened this morning.
