Rare Catch
Whilst netting off the Ohiwa flats on Sunday,, Mr Jim White (Ohiwa Jim), drew in an exceedingly rare fish of the species known as Pacific Albacor. The fish, which is of a steel-blue colour giving way to a striped white underbelly is considered one of the finest sporting fisli of America, where organised excursions bring in large supplies for the metropolitan markets. Though exceedingly rare in New Zealand, it is not unknown in these waters. The. whole of the handsome body has been obviously fashioned for speed, the dorsal fin being retractable and being taken right into the. actual body when desired. Jim's catch was on view in Whakatane yesterday where it excited a small amount of comment.
