WEDDING BELLS

SYKES —MARX All Saints Church, Edgecumbe, was the scene last week of an evening wedding of interest to a large circle of friends in the Eastern Bay, the contracting parties being Betty Thelma, only daughter of .Mr and Mrs Vernon Marx, Edgecumbe, and Cecil Francis -(Jack), second son of Mr and Mrs Sykes, Taneatua. The Rev. J. G. J. Wilson officiated. Mrs K. Marx presided at. tire organ, while the solo "I walk beside you" was rendered with pleasing effect by Mrs Shaw.

The bride who was given away by her father, looked charming in a dainty frock of white georgette the long waisted bodice being trimmed with bands of embroidery, while the long full ;skirt fell away to form a sweeping train. Her beautifully embroidered veil was worn with a halo effect from a circlet of orange blossom and the long folds formed a second train. A fan shaped bouquet of white chrysanthemums, dahlias and maiden hair fern was also carried. In attendance on the bride were Miss Florence Thomas, of Auckland, and Miss Mavis: Magee, of Edgecumbe. They were dressed alike in close-fitting long-waisted. frocks of mauve taffeta and wore smart gold pill box hats trimmed with mauve and gold flowers and gold veiling. They carried fan shaped bouquets of golden chrysanthemums and miniature zinnias. The duties of best man and groomsman were carried out by Mr Lionel McCready and Mr George Hill, of Taneat.ua. After the. ceremony the reception, was held in the Edgecumbe Hall where the guests were received by the parents of the bride and groom. The bride's mother wore a smart frock of emerald green with black accessories', fur coat and a shoulder spray of orchids. Mrs Skyes Snr. wore navy with brown fur coat, brojyn accessories and a spray in orange, tones. Mrs Magee the bride's grandmother, wore a navy frock with navy accessories and a spray of scarlet roses and maiden hair fern.

The tables were decorated with mauve chrysanthemums and the stage was also tastefully arranged with foliage, plants and ferns. On the bridal table pride, of place was taken by a beautiful three tier cake. Festivities were concluded by a very enjoyable dance. For travelling the bride chose, a model suit, of marina blue with brown accessories' and wore the bridegroom's gift, a brown fur coat on which was pinned a spray of orchids and maiden hair fern. The newly-weds received many beautiful gifts and substantial cheques from relatives and friends.
